Identity Theft Warning Signs

Can you imagine finding out that someone has stolen your name, your credit, even your reputation? And that in a matter of weeks, they ordered credit cards and requested a passport, driver’s licence or birth certificate in your name? Or redirected your mail, signed up for cell phone service, rented a car, or even got a job under your name? Replacing a stolen vehicle is one thing, but recovering a good name is something else entirely.

If any of the following have happened, you may be a victim of identity theft:

  • your bills and statements don't arrive when they are supposed to
  • amounts show on your bank or credit card statements for transactions you didn’t make
  • you’re contacted about a credit application you never applied for
  • you receive credit card statements or other bills in your name which you know nothing about
  • a collection agency calls about a defaulted account in your name which you never opened
  • you are denied credit even though you believe you have a good credit rating
  • your credit report shows debts that are not yours

What do I do if I think I’m a victim? >

One of the best ways to prevent identity theft is to check your credit record regularly. Find information on credit monitoring products available at a preferred price.
